Questions
How do you work out what my watch is worth?
We look at every Buy It Now listing on eBay for your reference today, in the condition you pick (unworn, full set, box or papers only, or watch only), and take the middle (median) price including postage. The range is the middle half of those listings.
Is this what my watch will sell for?
It's what similar watches are listed for, not what they sell for. Dealers will usually offer 15–30% under these asking prices, because they need to resell at a profit. Selling privately gets you closer to the typical price, but takes longer.
What affects a used watch's value most?
The reference and its demand, then box and papers (a full set is usually worth more than the watch alone), condition (unpolished cases with sharp edges are worth more), service history, and the year. Aftermarket parts, polishing and missing papers all reduce the value.
Do box and papers really matter?
Yes, especially for Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet. Papers (the warranty card) prove the watch's origin and date of sale. See how much they add for each reference in our box and papers premium table.
